Walk Recap

Our 2nd Annual Down Syndrome Awareness Walk was a HUGE success!
We welcomed 1200 walkers and raised just over $62,000! 

120 people also attended our Friday Night Kick-off!

Thank you to all of you who attended, raised funds and/or  volunteered!  The event would not have been possible without the help of over 75 volunteers and all of you who volunteered your time over the past year!

The 2nd Annual Fox Cities Down Syndrome Awareness Walk is ONLY 4 weeks away!!

Right now there are 26 teams, 285 people registered and just over $7,500 raised through pledges alone!  Last year, we welcomed 991 walkers and we expect to exceed that amount this year!

The 2011 Fox Cities Down Syndrome Awareness Walk is accepting online registration until noon on Wednesday, September 28th!  On-site registration is accepted, but t-shirts are not guaranteed.

Friday Night Kick-off!

"Dwell in the Possibilities"
  

This event is FREE and open to the public.  
This event features a dance performance by Marcia's School of Dance, LLC/ARC Fox Cities as well as keynote presentations by Self-Advocate, Bridget Brown and Co-founder of Signing Time, Rachel Coleman. 

Bridget Brown is a successful young woman who captures the attention of everyone she meets with her vitality and confidence. Bridget redefines the term "inclusion" by being the first person with Down Syndrome to be included in her school district. She graduated in 2005 as a result of this very successful school experience. She is a national public speaker and shares tools and strategies she used to be successfully included. She also is a person centered planning coach and works with young adults with disabilities to help them find their own voice.
Rachel Coleman delivers an inspiring and heart felt presentation about raising two daughters with disabilities and also shares how Signing Time was created. 


This event is NOT just for parents of children with disabilities!  Teachers, therapist, friends and relatives will be inspired to "Dwell in the Possibilities"!

SPARKS Mini-Grants


The Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities is announcing its call for SPARKS Grants, designed to “SPARK” innovative methods of building community capacity in the areas of grassroots community organizing, Integrated Employment, and self-directed supports. The innovative methods SPARKS Grants ignite are intended to lead to systems change that improves the lives of people with disabilities.


Grant recipients will guide a project that addresses at least one of the areas mentioned above. Grants of between $500 and $3,000 will be awarded on the basis of creative, effective strategies that are likely to result in systems change that will improve the lives of people with disabilities. The deadline to apply for a SPARKS Grant is 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2011.
